- A boot you can actually walk in. A suede ankle or a low heel, in brown if you already own black.
- A belt. I say this constantly and I will keep saying it. A good belt is the cheapest way to make an outfit look styled.
- Gold jewelry with some weight to it. Fall fabrics can read heavy; a strong gold earring keeps the whole thing sharp.
The layering rule for humid weather
Layer horizontally, not vertically. Instead of stacking a tee under a sweater under a jacket, use one lightweight base and one removable texture piece — a vest, an open cardigan, a draped jacket. You get the visual depth of fall dressing without sweating through it, and you can shed the top layer walking into a restaurant.
Colors that carry from September to December
Burgundy is having a genuine moment and it happens to be perfect for Louisiana — it reads rich in September heat and deep in December. Pair it with camel, cream, and chocolate and you have a palette where almost everything works together, which is the whole point of a capsule.
